When To Take Nuvaring?

Im starting to use Nuvaring as a form of birthcontrol and my period is expected to come on Wednesday, but my Dr. told me to start Sunday (yesterday) because I wanted to get back to getting my period on Sundays. Will I skip my period this month if I continue doing this? I really dont want to skip it.
