When Will Be Able To See The Heartbeat Of Foetal?

Hi doc. I m about 9 weeks pregnant according to lmp. First ultrasound 2 weeks ago shows empty gestational sac. Last week ultrasound shows fetal pole yet no heartbeat visible. I am having pregnancy symptoms and no bleeding or cramping whatsoever. Is it possible I was just not as far as they thought and this week we will see the heartbeat?

Hi,
If you are always regular with your cycles, then the period of gestation should coincide with your last menstrual period provided you have 28-30 day cycles. If you have prolonged cycles, like for example, 45-day cycles, your gestational age will lag by two weeks. Serial estimation of serum beta-hCG titres also gives a good suggestion of the progress of the pregnancy. Doubling of the titres every 2-3 days happens when there is good progress; else, the titres begin to fall. In a normal viable pregnancy, fetal cardiac activity can be made out by 6 weeks. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you good health.
