Which Dose Of Tetanus Is Given During Pregnancy?

Hi Dr
If a pregnant mother misses her second dose of TT vaccine (If she didn’t come on the appointment day) and, if she come on the other day let say on the six month of her first dose, which dose of TT vaccine is given? Is it TT2 or TT 3?
Sincerely

Hello,
There is no need to give a third dose of tetanus vaccine now-a-days, two doses are advised during the first pregnancy and if the second pregnancy is within five years of the first, one dose is sufficient in the subsequent pregnancy. Hence, the need for the second dose is decided by the consultant attending on the pregnant woman. If she needs it, the second dose is administered. In rare instances, if the protection is not considered to be sufficient, a third dose also may be given after the time interval, ignoring the first lapsed dose. Hope this helps.
