Which Infection Causes Leg Swelling, Ankle Fluid, High White Blood Cell Count?

Hi my wife had a doctors appointment today & after a exam the doctor notice one leg swollen & that there was fluid in her ankle, due to the fact that she has been functioning on one Kiddney for the past 5 yrs he was worried that there was a problem with its function & sent her to the Hosp for complete blood work up & kiddeny function check up. after hours of waiting she was told she has some kind of infection that here white blood cell count was high (I dont know wat the count is) He wanted her to stay for a GP doctor to look at her, but as I am away on a business trip & we have a handicap child @ home it was impossiable for her to stay, so she said she would make an appointment with her doctor & have him look into the infection. I am very concerned as she has not been eating right, & that she sometimes just feels rundown & sick sometimes, but the sickness only last a day or two, I am worried that the two are related. Can someone tell me what kind of infection she might have frm the most common to the worst it could be? she isint taking this serious & I want to be armed with as much info as I can be. Thank you very much for your time.

Very concerned far away husband.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Since the signs are mainly in the leg, it is possible that there is an infection in this limb.

This may involve the bone as in osteomyelitis or the soft tissues such as cellulitis.
It there is any superficial cut or lesion, it may also be infection of that area.

Antibiotics would be necessary to treat any of these infections but if it involves the bone, more intense therapy would be needed.

I hope this helps
