White Patch In Corner Of Mouth Inside Cheek, Tough, Biting Cheek. Could This Be Linked To Oral Cancer?

Hi, I have a white patch inside the corner of my mouth (inside cheek) caused because I bite the insides of my cheek. Ive been doing it for years and typically it heals with no problem. This white patch is tough (like a corn on your toe ) and has now been there for about 2 months. My dentist noticed it a month ago and said stop biting my cheek. I have tried by tend to do it still now and then. I am worried that this particular patch is still there and read that it could be linked to oral cancer . Is this a high probability or am I worried about nothing?

hello and welcome to HCM forum,
according to the history provided by you it states that you have a habit of biting cheek,
your dentist guided you well , by asking you to stop biting your cheek,
continuous biting causes repair of the tissue and as a response of the body, tissue becomes hypertrophic.
also, do not link this to oral cancer, just try to avoid biting your cheek.
your dentist will prescribe you topical medicaments to apply, which will gradually reduce the white patch.
maintain your oral hygiene to prevent any infection in that area,
also oral antioxidants will help,
i wish you good health,
take care.

Hi,
Thank you for the query.
Repeated trauma to cheek will lead to formation of traumatic ulcer which on long standing can develop malignancy
Yes, the possibility of an area which is repeatedly subjected to trauma turning into cancer is more , soo better try to stop the habit of cheek biting .
As well check for any sharp margins present on the teeth which is causing cheek bite and treat it by selective grinding technique.
Hope this information helps you.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Your clinical history suggest that you had developed white patch on the cheek due to cheek biting habit.
There is formation of traumatic ulcer, there is accumulation of healing tissues and cells in the area resulting in formation of little beningn fibroma.

If you continue irritating the tissue with the habit on long standing cases this can develop into a malignancy. So, I encourage you to stop the habit.

Also visit the Dentist and look for any sharp edges in the tooth causing cheek bite and get the selective grinding done.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.
Take multivitamin tablets.

Hope this helps out.

Hello there ,

Thanks for writing your query,

After reading your history i can say you have chronic habit of cheek biting because of which you have developed a hard white fibrotic area on the cheek due to chronic trauma to the cheek mucosa.

Such chronic conditions if not treated in time may progress into ulceration or sometimes into cancer.

Apply oral antiseptic ,analgesic ointments like dentogel or mucogel topically over the affected area
,this may help in resolving the problem.

exact diagnosis can be made only after clinical examination and evaluation by a dentist so please approach a dentist and get the treatment done.

i hope this helps ,

take care.

Hi,
The problem stated by you seems to be a linea alba buccalis which occurs due to biting of the cheek at the level of occlusion of teeth. It is a common feature in most of the people. But chronic cheek biting habit is bad. It can lead to ulcer formation which due to the trauma remains unhealed and leads to the development of Oral cancer. You have not mentioned if you have any habits like tobacco chewing? If so please quit it which is main causative factor for development of oral cancer.

hELLO,

Thanks for writing in.
The cheek biting can be due to-
SUPRA ERUPTED TOOTH.
mALaligned teeth.
Buccally placed molars.
Get your teeth orthodontically treated if malaligned.
Continuous cheek biting habit can lead into precancerous condition.
Apply mucopain gel on the affected area.
Use warm saline to gargle.
Hope this helps.

Hello dear
As per information provided by you it seems that you are having meisochistic habit i.e. self harming habit so stop harming yourself. This is related to somewhere with high stress.so my dear relax ,meditate and things will start becoming fine.Rest dont worry about cancer and all, this white line is known as linea alba and is quiet normal.Apply OTC available antiinflammatory gel like Dologel CT thrice daily, start taking antioxident suppliment capsules i.e. suppliment with green tea extract and chill out.you will be better within 2 to 3 weeks.

Hello and Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for writing to us.
This could be due to cheek biting over long periods of time, a sharp tooth.
The possible consequences of continuing with a cheek biting habit are an increased risk of oral cancer, and premature wrinkles, especially around the mouth, due to the face contortions necessary to constantly bite. It can also wear the teeth down. People can continue with this habit for years before accepting it has to stop.
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

Please do not link your present symptoms with cancer.both are different identity.

Yes definitely there is literature which suggests that on chronic irritation the tissue might react abnormally and may cause malignancy or tumours.

But why think for the worst when things can be well managed.

Try to relax and slowly leave this habit.

It will regress automatically.

Do maintain good oral hygiene.it will be fine.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.
