White Patches In The Area Where There Were Cold Sores On The Lip. Is That Another Cold Sore?

Hi. I had a cluster of 3 cold sores on my lip a couple of weeks ago and they scabbed and look like they went away. However 4 days ago I noticed that I have 3 white little patches of skin on my lip where the cold sore was. Am i still contagious/ do I have another cold sore? They don't itch or anything and when i rub my finger against my lip I can't feel that they are there?

Hi ,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

Cold sores or gingivostomatitis is usually mild and self-limiting and so can be managed symptomatically.
-Avoid touching the lesions.
-Wash hands with soap and water immediately after touching the lesions, such as after applying medication.
-Topical medications should be dabbed on rather than rubbed in, to minimise trauma.
Choline salicylate gel for pain control of cold sores if pain occurs
-Sunscreen may be useful if you think recurrences triggered by sunlight.
-Topical antiviral agents should also be applied before going out in the sun . Acyclovir 5% ointment may be used

Take care
