Whitish Spot With Pain In The Inner Cheek. Accidentally Bit The Cheek. Need To See A Dentist?

I bit my inner cheek about a week ago, around where my bottom wisdom tooth is growing in. It s been in a lot of pain ever since. I thought it was just a combination of the bite and teeth growing, but a this morning I looked a little closer. Right in the area where my gum and my cheek meet on the bottom gumline, there is this white-ish spot that is the exact source of my pain. It looks almost like a hole that has been filled in. This has never happened before. Do I need to contact a dentist or should I ride it out?

hi lindseyy
thanks for asking a query
according to your history the whitespot is formed by a traumatic bite ( frictional keratosis)
get your xray done for wisdom tooth evaluation because its eruption sometimes is painful too
apply analgesic gel(somogel) on traumtic area
consult dentist for further evaluation
thanks

hello and welcome to HCM,

Wisdom tooth is the last tooth to erupt in the oral cavity and often its eruption is associated with symptoms like pain and discomfort in eating , difficulty in opening mouth , swelling in the jaws and cheek bite.

wisdom teeth are often tilted in position and impacted in the bone , gums overlying the tooth usually undergoes inflammation known as pericoronitis .
The tilted position of the tooth leads to entrapment of the cheek mucosa in between the teeth during biting.

Due to cheek bite , the mucosa gets inflammed and appear red or white due to trauma.

i would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine.

consult a dentist and get the tooth extracted surgically, apply topical oral antiseptics over the cheek mucosa .

i hope this helps ,

take care.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Wisdom tooth is the last tooth to errupt in the oral cavity which is often tilted or malpositioned.
This area is difficult to clean and often causes inflammation of the surrounding gingiva known as pericoronitis.

Due to accidental trauma you had caused ulceration of the oral mucosa.
I would suggest you to get a checkup done , take an x-ray of the tooth.
Wisdom tooth does not have any significant role in mastication and occlussion , so it is indicated for extraction if causing any trouble in the oral cavity.

Apply Dologel oral ointment or Mucopain over the affected area.
Use saline water gargles 3-4 times a day to give soothing effect.
Use antiseptic mouthwash solution chlorhexidine twice daily .
Maintain a good oral hygiene.

Hope this helps out.

Regards.

Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
There are various ways to get rid of a sore mouth, which mainly depend upon the underlying causes. The best way is to try these simple home remedies and suggestions. But, in case the condition doesn't subside even after trying the mentioned treatments, you must consult a dentist or doctor to elucidate the problem.
▸ Make a paste of a few drops of water and one teaspoon of baking soda. Apply this paste on the affected region with a cotton swab.
▸ Apply two drops of glycerin or lavender oil on the affected area.
▸ Drink a glass of warm milk mixed with half a teaspoon of turmeric, 2 to 3 times a day,
▸ Place a wet tea bag on the affected area, or have one teaspoon of honey to relieve the pain and inflammation.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.

Hello and welcome to hcm,

The cheek biting is due to the erupting wisdom teeth which interferes with mouth closure.
The white spot may be due to the abscess developed with erupting wisdom teeth.
Frequent warm saline as well as betadine rinse may give slight relief.
Based on clinical and x-ray examination, the wisdom tooth has to be either removed or flap overlying has to be removed to enhance tooth eruption.
Maintain good oral hygiene.
Apply anaesthtic gel on the affected site.
Take care.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

chronic cheek biting has led to ulceration in that area . on infection the impacted molar is causing swelling of your gum. resulting swelling is causing interference.
thats why you have bit there.

I would advise you to visit your dentist and get an x ray done .that will give you the exact site and size of third molar.

based upon x ray diagnosis, you can plan and get the teeth extracted.

this is a recurrent problem if left unattended.

meanwhile maintain very good oral hygiene.

hope it helps.

take care.

thanks
