Wht Causes Severe Pain In The Heel After An Injury?

I landed very hard on the bottom of a pool yesterday on my right heel. It was initially very painful, but as I began swimming in the cool water the pain subsided. When I got out of the pool and stepped on my right foot the pain in my heel was intense. It doesn t hurt unless I walk. It is the bottom of the heel and it looks somewhat swollen and red, doesn t hurt unless I put weight on it. The rest of my foot is fine, but I am unable to walk without a lot of pain. Ibuprofen doesn t help, just staying off it helps. Do you think it s just a really bad bruise and will go away in a few days? Thank you for your advise. Elizabeth

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hello,

As you landed over the foot. There might be a soft tissue injury or may be a hairline fracture of the calcaneum bone. Taking an x-ray for the safety side is always good. Use heel pads for shoes and do simple hot water fermentation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
