Why Am I Having Blood Stains Instead Of Period?

Hello,I have not got my period for this month but yesterday when i was on the toilet i saw a stain of blood as if the beginning of a oerio i actually thought i would get them because it was the right time, so i waited for the whole day but no blood instead i kept on getting stains till today. what could the problem be?
