Why Am I Getting Irregular Periods?

hi I'm 22 years old and I have been having periods twice a month for two moths now. I had sex a week before experiencing this and my doctor told me not to worry but I am worried. I have only had sex with two people. My first boyfriend many years ago and now twice with my husband. Should I be worried??

Hi,

Irregularity in periods can occur due to many causes. Usually menstrual cycle with the length of 21 to 35 days can be considered as a normal only. So, sometimes getting two menstrual periods in one month can be seen. You have to to see the gap between two periods, if it is more than 21 days you may not need any specific treatment as told by your doctor.

Usually intercourse may not alter the pattern of menstrual cycles unless there is a possibility of pregnancy. If you suspect any possibility of pregnancy and want to rule out implantation bleeding or abortion, please go for a blood test for pregnancy. If the serum beta HCG levels are less than 5 mIU/mlL in blood test that rules out the possibility of pregnancy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
