Why Any Medication Not Given For Irregular Heart Beat?

Hello

My husband had a tripe by-pass last April. All seemed well and he seemed to regain his fitness and was allowed to resume cycling. In February, he had a VT attack by the side of the road and he died there. I can't understand why he was not given any medication for his irregular heart beat ( which he had had for many years) and I am trying to come to terms with why he died.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Sorry to hear the sad status...

After bypass surgery, beta-blockers are routinely given to almost all – unless there is a specific contraindication. The drug has several uses – prevention of arrhythmia is one. He too might have received....
Most other anti-arrhythmic drugs are also pro-arrhythmic. Meant to treat arrhythmias, the drugs could also lead to serious arrhythmias – they are not to be prescribed lightly...
VT does not always mean it was a primary event. It could have been secondary to another heart attack – block in the graft or native vessel is always a possibility.

Only a post-mortem that time could have clarified the issue.

Take care
May his soul rest in peace
