Why Are Few Glands On Areola In Both Breasts Painful?
A few glands on my areola - on both breasts - are swollen. They are painful to the touch, and are irritated when I wear a bra. It looks like if I were to squeeze them, something white would come out. They have been this way for a few days - since the beginning of my period. I ve never had this happen before. I m 40 years old. Should I be concerned? There is no discharge from my nipples, and my breasts are not hot or itchy, just the soreness in the areola. I m also not breastfeeding either. Could it be hormones? The start of menopause?
I can understand your concern. As there is no itchiness or pain, it could be either hormonal changes due to menopause or due to menstruation that has started.
You can wait for a few days till your periods are over for them to disappear and the breasts to be back to normal. However, if they persist and become a cause of too much trouble, you should consult a gynecologist for investigations into it and find the root cause of it.
In addition, I would advise you to go for regular mammography and Pap smears. I would like to clarify that your symptoms do not suggest any cancerous changes, but your age suggests that it is wise to go for regular check ups now.
I hope this information helps. Thank you choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
