Why Are My Breasts Tender And Sore?

Hi I've been taking microlite pill for two and a half years and always at the same time every day. I never miss a pill or take any risks with it. The first day of my last period was feb 4th. I had intercourse with my partner on feb 8th without a condom (relying on pill) This week my breasts feel particularly tender and sore. Could that be a sign of early pregnancy or just ovulation? Am I correct in thinking conception is more unlikely at that stage of my cycle?

Hallo Dear,

If your menstruation started on 4th and then you have unprotected sexual intercourse on 8th, it is most unlikely that you are pregnant. The egg is released 14 days prior to next expected menses. Considering the life of egg of 24 hours and the sperms activity for 3 days, period of about 8-10 days around the day of egg release is fertile window. You had intercourse far away from fertile window.

Moreover you are on Microlite pills which are very reliable contraceptive pills. You are regular on pill consumption. So you are protected and chances of pregnancy are very remote.

Further more you have not missed your period. So no need to suspect pregnancy.

The contraceptive pills (hormonal) do cause engorgement and soreness of the breasts. Salt restriction may give you some relief.

If at all you miss your period, you may think of confirmation of pregnancy status either by pregnancy test on urine or Beta hCG test on blood.

I hope this helps you.
