Why Are Some Diseases Categorized As Hereditary Diseases?

Why are only some diseases(cancer, diadiabetes...etc) categorised as hereditary diseases. Is it just because studies show that the statistics of having that disease in the next generations higher? or is there any other scentific reason? My mother is diagnosed cervical cancer and doctors say its could be because of our family has cancer history in previous generations

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Some diseases are categorized as hereditary diseases, it is just not because of statistical factor, but also because of the genetic make up of the person. Many diseases are influenced by the genetic make up of the person which he/she get it from there parents and carry on to their children.

Another important thing is that only few diseases are there which has an absolute relation with the hereditary. Many other factors along with the genetic makeup like environmental factors, life styles and food habits etc are important part for the development of the diseases.

The diagnosis of cervical cancer in your mother is not just because of the family history, but many other factors play important role which ultimately come together to develop the disease.

Thanks and take care to keep you away from the diseases.
