Why Are There Divots Above My Sprained Ankle, And Why Is The Pain Mostly In My Lower Leg?

Sprained an ankle, ankle is black and blue. Above my ankle on my lower legs are noticeable divots that you can see and psychically feel. Majority of the pain is quite dull and mostly in the lower leg ever since the ankle injury. Any ideas why there is divots?
