Why Did I See Large Dark Circles In My Vision Last Night That Disappeared By Morning?

Last night when I awoke in the middle of the night, I had large dark circle in my vision. The room was quite dark, but I could still see these circles. I closed each eye and they were in both. When I awoke this morning, in the light of day, there were no circles.
