Why Do I Have A Severely Painful Indentation On The Upper Back Part Of My Left Hand?

Hi I have indentation on my upper back left hand side. I am in extreme pain. I have booked to see neurosurgeon department at hospital but cannot be seen until 24/10. I have seen a gp today who has subscribed neurontin gapapentin but have not much change as yet. Can upload photo if needed.
