Why Do I Smell Ammonia In My Nose And Back Of My Throat?
When i breathe through my nose i get an extremely strong smell of ammonia, strong enough that it catches my breath, and when i breathe through my mouth i can taste the ammonia at the back of my throat, my blood sugars are relatively high, > 12.0 mmol, when it happens but i do not have ketones in my blood or urine.
In all probability you are getting the smell because of your uncontrolled diabetes in spite of not having ketones.
This condition is called parosmia and this is to be controlled with a combination of diabetes management and ENT consult as soon as possible. You can also get a CT PNS and get back to me with the reports as soon as possible.
