Why Do I Sometimes Feel 100 Needles Stabbing Me?

Every few nights it feels like 1000 needles stabbing me. It only last for about 10 minutes. It starts at my head and slowly works all the way down my body. It burns and itches for about the first minute. And after about 10 minutes all symptoms to go away. First I thought it would happen just periodically if I took NyQuil. But tonight all I had taken was Ambein CR. Is this an allergic reaction or what?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to:
1. Peripheral neuropathy.
2. Any fluctuation in blood pressure levels
3. Altered blood sugar levels
4. Inadequate hydration & nutrition status.
5. Deficiency of certain nutrients like Iron, Vitamin B 12, Calcium, Magnesium, etc.
Investigations like complete blood count, estimation of blood pressure and blood sugar levels will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Symptomatic relief can be obtained with nervigenic agents (like Vit B6, B12, Folic acid) as well as multivitamin & mineral supplementation needs to be added in the diet.

If symptom still persist, kindly consult a Neurologist for proper clinical examination including nerve conduction studies.
Meanwhile, maintain adequate hydration, take a healthy balanced diet & avoid stress.

Wishing a good health.
Take care.
