Why Do Knees Get Locked On Kneeling?

hi i have never been able to kneel for long on my knees from since i can remember but just lately its got really bad if i kneel my knees seem to lock and takes me over 10 mins to straighten them and then when they are straight i get pins and needles from my knee to my toes what can this be
