Why Do Yeast Infection Symptoms Persist Despite Various Treatments For A While?

Hi, I recently went to the doctor and was told I had a infection as my lymph nodes behind my ears kept swelling up. I was given antibiotics but had to go to the doctor a week after and was told I had a UTI for which antibiotics were prescribed. I started having vaginal pains and clumpy discharge so I went back and was told I had a yeast infection for which oral and inserts were given .The inserts were 7 days but my period started after 2 days. After the period ended I had the same issue so I continued inserts .since then I have gotten otc medications and prescribed(Canditral, Flucona Denk 150, Apo-Fluconazole 150, canesten v, clotrimazole tablets)for yeast but symptoms resolve during treatment only to return 3-4 days after. I am confused .This have been happening since Aug and still happening .I am confused as despite several visits to the doctor none have done a test of the discharge and after a simple vaginal exam they say it s yeast .

Hello,

If you are sexually active, then your partner should also get treated for fungal infection. Avoid multiple sex partners. Poor hygiene may also be responsible for recurrent yeast infection, lack of regular showers, wearing damp-sweaty clothes, damp environment can also lead to yeast infection. Keep your private area dry and wear clothes that are breathable, soft cotton clothes.

Sometimes, underlying medical conditions like chlamydia infection, HIV, diabetes, change in hormones, pregnancy, change in immunity, etc., can also cause similar symptoms. You are advised to get blood tests, tests for STD, ELISA for HIV, test for diabetes, hormones, etc., done. At present take care of your hygiene, control your blood sugar level at all costs.

If chlamydia is detected you will be treated with antibiotics like Azithromycin, Doxycycline, Amphotericin B etc. For chronic yeast infection, you will be given long-course vaginal therapy and oral therapy if required. Your local doctor will prescribe an antifungal medication and vaginal therapy to be taken daily for up to two weeks, followed by once a week for six months.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
