Why Does A Levothyroxine Pill Disintegrate In The Mouth?

My thyroid was taken out over 35 years ago. I have been on synthroid then levithyroxin. Recently I switched my prescription to Walmart as it is close to me. However, the pill disintergrates when I put it in my mouth. I asked the pharmacist and she didn t know why. My friend in Texas is also on levithyroxine (from Walmart) and she said hers does the same thing. Besides that, I recently had a blood test and the NP told me my numbers were slightly low so she lowered my dose.??? It doesn t make much sense to me. Perhaps the thought behind this is that the medicine is taking over my thyroid, but I don t have one. Is this normal. I am close to 79 years old, very active, and only have my blood drawn yearly to get my prescription. I was feeling great, no problems.

I would like to tell you that you might have taken Oral Fast Disinitegrating Levothyroxine that dissolve immidiatly in mouth. Efficacy of fast disintegrating Levothyroxine is little bit better that the stomach disintegrating Levothyroxine that can be the reason of improved blood reports.

It's advisable for you to continue with current meds and do personally consult with your endocrinologist on regular basis .
