Hi, My 3 year old choked on some food tonight. She swallowed it but it seemed like it went down the wrong way. She's now coughing in her sleep consistently for the last hour. Im wondering if these related even though she didn't cough after dinner and it was only 2 hours after that the coughing started. Thankyou, Ingrid
Hi Ingrid, I think hearing the symptoms your child aspirated food. A coughing fit while having food is typically suggestive of aspiration. This aspirated food particles gets clogs the airway and induce cough. This is a serious problem to be addressed as it can cause lower respiratory infection and breathing difficulties. So, in order to make sure that everything is all right, you should go to a concerned specialist and discuss the situation as early as possible.
