Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For many years I notice that when I stretch after sitting for long periods of time, my heart beats very fast and hard. It is NOT painful, but it does cause a pounding sensation in the back of my head I presume at the top of my spine. I recently had a stress test and though overweight, my heart is strong. I am 5 foot 11, and weigh 248. (down from 270 last year). I stretch and when I relax my heart beats harder and faster and I get a little bit dizzy. Just for about 20 seconds or so, then it goes back to normal. It has been this way for years. I do have a little arthritis in my spine and degenerative disc disease (both only in the last year). I walk daily for an hour fast enough to sweat but not get out of breath and I have no other tachycardia except when I stretch... Is that normal or should i be concerned?
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to the change in the venous pressure during stretching.
This does not indicate any serious cardiac disorders, is just a physiological reaction. So, in my opinion there is nothing to worry about, especially considering the fact that you have no limitations to your daily physical activity and physical straining.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
