Why Does Heart Beat Faster While Smoking?

I get a fast heart rate when I smoke weed. Am I okay? I want someone who knows what they re talking about. No stoners that say Nah, you re fine. It s just paranoia. Keep smoking! It s NOT paranoia. I also know it s bad for me, so please keep that to yourself. Anyway - everytime I smoke I get a really fast heart rate. I know that can t be good. I don t want to quit though :/ Someone help? I ve been smoking for a while though. Don t you think if anything serious was going to happen, it would have by now?

I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the weed. As you know the weed calms you down. Not an upper that should be getting you going. Whats probably going on is a little bit of paranoia or anxiety. Your smoking, and then think your heart is beating fast, then you start to worry that something is wrong, then that triggers a little anxiety which does make your heart beat faster. What I would say is stop worrying, your smoking the weed to calm down, so do just that, CLAM THE F DOWN! I had a friend that got REALLY high once and had acid brownies and didn't know it. She had a BAD trip and then anytime after that she smoked weed she would freak out and have anxiety problems. So she quit. So either calm down or quit. I used to feel kinda cold when I would smoke and that would kinda freak me out and I would get my heart going. It happened a few times then I got over it. Really If pot gave you rapid heart beat I would know. I have tachycardia, had it sense I was a little kid. I have not had one episode EVER from smoking pot! Sugar and caffeine totally would do it! So make sure you don't over due the caffeine soda's when you get the munchies. Good luck.. And just make sure not to make pot run your life and define you as a person. Besides that have fun safely.

I've been to the emergency room for this... It might not be just in your head, I bet if they did an ECG your signals would be off during these episodes, like mine were. My heart would beat extremely fast and hard out of nowhere, when I was not in a stressful environment what so ever. Sometimes it would get to the point of my arms (usually the left, sometimes both) going numb and tingly, and I'd start to get chest pain. Even if I sat down, took slow breaths, and relaxed it would continue to get worse. They ended up giving me a benzo to slow my heart rate. I later learned (after three similar visits) that in some people, the electrical signal of their heart changes when they come into contact with different foods, drugs, etc. I was referred to a PE doctor and told that I have a branch block, which I'm told won't amount to much other than getting light headed when I stand up too fast and these weird heart palpitations. If it happens literally EVERY time you smoke, I'd say it's time to call it quits or dramatically reduce your intake. Slowly rebuilding your tolerance might help.

Just calm down. Smoking weed does increase your heart rate, but not to a point to were it's bad. A healthy heart can have a resting heart rate under 100 and be fine. It's when you smoke weed and then have an anxiety attack that makes it worse than it actually is. I know it's easier said than done. I sometimes have the same problem. Just take some deep breaths, calm down, and you will be fine. You also have to be in the right mind set before smoking. If your all anxious before smoking, there's a good chance you'll freak the F out. Unless you have some type of heart problem, an increase in your heart rate is not a problem. Just don't even think about it. Just ride it and enjoy it.

It could be paranoia or anxiety, I've had it happen to me too; but you will be fine trust me. You're smoking more than you can handle at one time, take smaller hits and don't hold them in as long. Yes i smoke but im not just saying oh you're fine blah blah blah, but i've experienced this. It happens when I don't smoke for a while and start smoking again. If you're already stressed or anxious before you start smoking, smoking just heightens it. It feels like you're going to die or have a heart attack, but just lay down, try to concentrate on something else and take deep breaths in through your nose out of your mouth, you're most likely having a panic attack
