Why Does My 17 Years Old Breathe Heavily While Eating?
My 17 year old daughter seems to breath heavy while she is eating. As if she may have a stuffy nose. It is not noticeable any other time. Or at least I have not noticed. Is this a concern. She has never complained, but we can here her breath while eating. She does play softball and just had a sports physical for school. They did listen to her lungs and said nothing. Did not think to ask then. Is this just how she eats and we for some reason just became more aware of it lately?

Hi,
This is not a serious problem. She may have nasal polyps which cause her to mainly breathe through her mouth. Therefore, during eating, her breathing may be more noticeable. If her breathing is causing her a problem at any time whether during eating or not eating, then I advise seeing her doctor for assessment.
Hope this helps. Most nasal polyps do not need any treatment.
