Why Does My Ankle Hurt While Playing Football?

hi,
i twisted my ankle playing football about a month ago. when i first did it i could not walk for a week then it rapidly improved however it doesnt seem to have improved lately and although i could walk and run on it if i move it in a certain way or kick a football its really painful.
am i doing it harm by playing football, should i buy any thing to help aid it??
