Why Does My Mother Have Severe Pain Her Ear While Sleeping?
i want to know about my mother ...who feels severe pain in the ear by which side she is lying while sleeping. Is it pressure on that ear on which she is sleeping but why she feels pain only in the outer shell of ear...she does not feel pain inside ears but only in outer part of ear and in one ear at a time by which side she is lying..like if she is lying and sleeping by left side her left ear will feel severe pain.please help and answer.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted history about your mother having pain in the pinna, that is outer ear of the side on which she is sleeping. This is a rare thing to occur and the reasons can be: - It is possible that the pillow is hard, irregular in surface or has mites that bite the pinna. - Another possibility is that your mother has chondritis or dermatitis of the pinna. I would advise you the following for your Mother: - Get a consultation of an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations if required and to see for another possibilities than the ones I have mentioned for like trigeminal neuralgia and so on. - Change the pillow ti newer, softer one. - Debug the bed and the bedroom. - Ask you mother about detailed history that can add to the diagnosis and treatment.
