Hi, my 7 year old son is complaining of something stuck in his throat on the left when he swallows. We have just been out for tea and he has eaten chicken wings so I am a bit concerned it might be a bone. We have tried coughing, eating and drinking but it remains there. Is it safe to leave overnight and assess the situation in the morning?
Noted the history of your 7 year old son eating chicken wings and then feeling something stuck, wants to know whether to wait overnight. - First of all stop trying anything at home as this can cause more harm. - Take to ER for a clinical examination, it is easy to see foreign body in children as opening of mouth is wide. If there is anything it can be removed by an expert. - X-ray neck and throat. - Endoscopy if possible can confirm about presence of any foreign body or is just an injury or oedema or any other cause like Tonsillitis. - Aphthous or aphthoid ulcer can be a reason. - He will be given an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory as required. - Povidone iodine gargles if he allows and can do.
