Hi,

Banging your head when you're upset or angry can be a form of self-injurious behavior. People often engage in self-injury to cope with overwhelming emotions, to express inner pain, or to feel a sense of control over their lives. It can also be a sign of underlying mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, or a personality disorder.

It is important to seek help from a mental health professional if you find yourself engaging in self-injurious behavior. A therapist can help you identify the triggers for your behavior, develop alternative coping strategies, and work with you to address any underlying mental health concerns. They may also be able to help you learn relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or progressive muscle relaxation, which can help you manage your emotions more healthily.

It's important to remember that self-injurious behavior is not a sign of weakness, and seeking help is a brave and important step toward healing and recovery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
