Why Does Period Happen Only During Urination?

Hi Dr. Samuel Grief, I am suppose to get my cycle on the 29th. Instead I am not sure that is what I am on. I am wearing a pantliner and very, very little brown blood on it. However, when I urinate and put pressure on I have clots and bright red blood that is coming from my vagina. Only when I am urinating though. Is this my period and why only when I urinate?

Hi

If you are having frequency of urination then I suggest that you have a urine analysis test to exclude an urinary tract infection(UTI). Some women if they have a UTI can experience bleeding from the urethra. Since it is unclear if you are having a period or bleeding from a urinary tract infection and if you are sexually active you may need to consider whether you need a pregnancy test.

Any cause of irregular periods such as polycystic ovaries, obesity and hypothyroidism should be identified and treated effectively.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
