Hello,

I would highly recommend either a STREP THROAT screen or even a MONOSPOT checking for mononucleosis given the degree of SWALLOWING PAIN or odynophagia you are experiencing.

If you fail to get these tests done you may be harboring either a bacterial infection that can DEFINITELY be treated with antibiotic and taken care of quickly or you may be harboring a viral infection (which will get better on its own in time) which needs to be quarantined (i.e. you should not be in public until you've resolved).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dariush Saghafi, Neurologist
