Why Is Calvepen Dosage Increased After A Splenectomy?

my husband had a splenectomy 7 years ago due to lymphoma. He was put on 333mg calvepen and this week for no apparent reason that has been increased to 666mg. We have been going through a good period in his health and we dont understand why this prescription had to be changed.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Post-splenectomy patients are at higher risk for developing infections.

So, antibiotic like Calvepen should be continued for life. Calvepen ensures better blood antibiotic levels and protection against infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
