Why Is Miralax Not Advised For A Kidney Patient?

I have large ventral hernias (for years) and have been put on Ferrous Sulfate,,,which I did not want for obvious reasons/ since Miralax is not recommended for CKD pts. I would really like to know WHY?? It works so well, I don t have to strain and loose stools are not my problem. Respectfully, Mary Ellen Floyd at YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Miralax increases the risk of electrolyte and fluid imbalance. The kidneys regulate electrolyte/fluid in the body. Miralax is an osmotic laxative can disrupt fluid and electrolyte balance, which can be particularly dangerous for an individual with impaired kidneys.
That being said, most patients with kidney problems do not develop any problems with Miralax.

Hope this answers your question
