Why Is Norethisterone Prescribed?

hi doc. my doctor gave me norethisterone for me to have my period since ive been delayed for more than 1 month then i just do research regarding the effects/uses of this. I saw some causes like to delay the menstruation. Can you explain doc the use of this med? Is this for delaying period or to have a period? thanks doc..
