Why Is Pseudoephedrine Prescribed For Plugged Ears?
What is the reason that I was proscribed Pseudoephedrine for a plug up ear. I did some scuba diving and the next day my ear became blocked to the point I could not hear. That night I got some qtips and found I only made it worse and more painful. So a few days later I went to a military hospital where a doctor cleaned my ear out told me to follow up with my primary doctor when I get home and gave me a script for this cold med. I really did not understand why or how I should take this med for my issue. I was planning on reading the label on the box to tell me what to do. The only problem was all it said was to take as directed. I asked the pharmacy how to take it and was told to go back to the ER and talked to the doctor. I did that and he got mad and said we talk about this and I told him that I was sorry but I did not understand as to why or how to take this medicine. He just walk away. My main concern is that in two days I will me spending 15 + hours flying back to the US and don t want any problems. Thanks for your help
Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that is sometimes used to help open an obstruction in the Eustachian tube or the tube that goes from your nose to your ears.
Sometimes when that tube gets obstructed, it can cause congestion and increased pressure in the ear, which may affect your hearing as well.
Usually, pseudoephedrine is taken 60 mg every 4 to 6 hours, the maximum is 240 mg in 24 hours.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
