Why Is Utrogestan And Folic Acid Given In Early Pregnancy?

Hi..I am Sara..last week i found out that am for weeks pregnant for my first baby..next day i started to bleed,period like..when i did an ultrasound the doc said the baby i fine but low in my uterus..he did anion injection and put me on utrogestan 200 mg and folic acid,with calcium and revitalose..one day after the bleeding stopped..i want to know why was the utrogestan and folic acid given to me?Was it to prevent an early miscarriage as my baby is low in my uterus?
