Why Is Hpt Showing Positive When Nothing Is Visible In Ultrasound?

Hi Doctor,

I have a problem. I have my period cycle of 30 days. It was due by 8th of this month. I did home pregnancy test on 13th dec,tuesday and it was +ve. I been to see doctor on the same day evening, and she confirmed the same. On sunday i had some pain and it resulted to minor bleeding at evening. I was soo scared and stared crying, i called up doc..she adviced me to take 2 medcns and visit her next morning for ultrasound. Bleeding somehow stopped the same day. On monday , i.e on 19th i been to hospital for ultrasound. Nothng was visible in ultrasound, and my doc said buddy u r not even pregnant. I was completely shockd to hear that.. I di the home test agin next morning and it was again +ve and too very dark line. Again yestrday i found some blood in my urine.. I am really worried. Please tell me if its normal..

No it is not normal..ultrasonography cant diagonose pregnancy in the early 1st trimester until the foetus is big enough to b visualised..it usually takes 8-10 wks after ehich a pregnancy can be detected by usg..but the pregnancy kits are based on hormones called hcg which rises as soon u r peegnant hence it detects pregnancy even within 1 or 2 days of missing period..given that ur pregnancy kit is positiv its most likely that u are pregnant..and if you r really bleeding u must visit your obstretician as this is a sign of spontaneous abortion.
