Why Is My Father Having Restless Night And Irrelevant Conversations?

My 80 year old Father has had many restless nights for about three weeks. He is now saying random things that are not relevant to our conversation. He also laughs when there is nothing to laugh about. Could you give me some indications as to what may be wrong with him? Thank you.
