Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. A few weeks back, my girlfriend started having heart pains. At first it wasn t that bad, just small flashes now and then. But recently it s got worse, today she cried for 20 minutes due to the pain. She was at a medical look-up, but the EKG didn t show anything, and the doctors said it probably was stress related. She s only 16 years old, is it normal for a girl at that age to be having heart pains due to stress? Or could it be something worse? Give me some tips and clues here, I m really worried about her.
Anxiety or panic attacks can produce chest pain and rapid heart rate (palpitations) which can feel like a heart-attack. It would be VERY, VERY rare for a girl of her age to have a cardiac disease which had not already been diagnosed at birth. If her EKG was normal, I vote for anxiety attack and she needs medication and psychological counseling to ease her reactions to stress.
