Why Is My Physician Sending Me To Oncologist?

Hello I had a spinal surgery, a laminectomy and discectomy of l3/4,l4/5 I developed a staph aureus gram negative infection in the spine. (later surgery found bone and suture abscess) which lasted 3 months on iv 1 month on pill antibiotic antibiotics 2 pick lines an accluded basilic artery, 2 months later I started having blood clots in my lungs 5 large 1 saddle tup embolus in my right lung , subsequent test showed my protein c and s were deficient causing a hyper coaugulative blood clot disorder, tests on family were negative for protein c and s no problem with their proteins. Up until I had the surgery my health was very good for 30 years old. Prior to the time of surgery my health was excellent, rarely sick. but after the infection more health problems developed, trimmers, trigeminal teeth pain, recurrent chronic sinusitis, 4 sinus surgeries, after much research they found I have a non-descript autoimmune disease, as of late my lungs have been causing gagging and vomiting from intense pain, but clear lungs, I do have scaring in upper and lower lungs on both sides, I have uncontrollable hot cold flashes approx, 2 to 3 days a week , I am loosing weight and muscle mass 30 lbs 6 months , doctors found low immunogolubin g deficientcy in 2 markers. Can a staph aureus gram negative infection that lasted 4 months have caused all off these and more health problems? Tests revealed no genectic problems in direct family members with 3 other siblings with no related health problems. My primary physician is nnow sending me to an oncollogist what does that mean? what can do to help my condition?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Cancer is one of the cause of significant loss of weight.
Other causes of rapid loss of weight include chronic infections, autoimmune diseases, connective tissue diseases and hyperthyroidism.
Thus, all these possibilities including cancer has to be ruled out to find the cause of weight loss.

Thanks and take care
