Why Is My Son Not Able To Swallow Saliva And Has A Spitting Problem?

hi. i have a 15 year old son who is developmentally delayed. he has a problem with spitting. it started when a few years ago, he couldn't swallow all of a sudden. saliva would build up in his mouth but he couldn't swallow. as a result i would always tell him to go spit in the trash can or toilet. this became a behavior for him. is there anything i can do or something that can be prescribed to prevent the spitting?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
Is may be due to the habit or may be due to excess salivation.
I advise you to consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment .
Stop prompting him to spit.Watch him whether spitting, and don't try to stop him of spitting. Ask him to swallow the content, but don't force him to do so.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms ranitidine which some times suppress the excess salivation.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
