Why Is My Throat Hurting After Smoking Marijuana?

I am a 20 year old male, 5'11" 200lbs. with a muscular/athletic build. No medical history or anything antibiotics/medicine I take regularly. My question/problem is, I smoked marijuana two days ago and my throat hurt really bad yesterday and today as well. We were smoking out of a small bong. It has the same feeling as strep throat. It hurts to swallow so I've been drinking water sparingly and only had about a half bowl of oatmeal at 7:30 PM yesterday.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Marijuana smoke irritates the throat that can make it red and inflamed making it painful while swallowing.

You can take NSAIDS like Acetaminophen 500 mg or Ibuprofen 400 mg thrice a day for some days till the throat heals itself. It is not an infection, thus I am not advising you antibiotics. Keep drinking lots of water. It should heal within 3 days.

I would recommend you to stop smoking for your good health and prevent further complications while not smoking at all during this recovery periods to avoid further pain and damage along with faster recovery.
