Why Is My Thumb Swollen?

My thumb has been swollen for a few months. If I straighten it out all the way it feels like it dislocates and I can't move it. It's on the closest knuckle to the thumb nail. It's also hard to grip anything between my thumb and index finger. Not sure if I injured it by falling or what happened. Could it be skier's thumb?
