Why Is The Migraine Drug, Nubain, Not Prescribed As This Alone Offers Me Significant Relief?
I have a quick question. Nubain is not a scheduled drug according to the FDA is it illegal to obtain it without a prescription and it if is what is the reference? I suffer from migraines and am having trouble finding a medication that aborts my migraines without having to visit the ER frequently. I have seen a neurologist, had a catscan MRI and all that other good stuff and was just told to keep on my topamax and maxalt. but its just not working. nothing else has been as effective as maxalt and topamax, however nubain has been extremely effective at killing my migraines with little side effects, but my PCM is not interested in going that route with me. But I don t understand because nubain is not very addictive because of its opioid antagonist nature...
Nubain (nalbuphine) is an opioid analgesic and though it is not a controlled substance, it cannot be obtained without prescription. Most of the medicines are not controlled drugs but still need a prescription because misuse can lead to serios consequences. A simple example is that of medicines used to lower the blood pressure or to lower the blood cholesterol levels. These medicines have no risk of dependence but still need prescriptions for sale. Similarly, nalbuphine is available only on prescription. It does have some risk of opioid dependence. It is no longer manufactured as Nubain but generic versions are available. In my opinion, you should try triptan analgesics (sumatriptan, rizatriptan etc) as they have specific action in migraine unlike nalbuphine.
Best wishes.
