Why Is The Side Of IV Needle Insertion Reddish Brown, Itchy And Peeling?
I had blood drawn recently and I think saline was inserted into my blood stream. I have never had a reaction to an iv needle before. It has been about 4 days since I've had it, now it is itching and I have a sort of brown/ red rash around it and it looks like it is pealing. should I be worried?
I can understand your concern reddish brown, itchy and peeling skin after IV needle insertion.
After reading your query it appears to be simple bruise. The very first and important thing to tell you is your bruise or rash is not at all a thing of worry for you.
It is a simple collection of blood due to minor injury to the very fine blood vessels under the skin by the needle during the procedure of blood collection. Due to this blood gets collected and causes reddish to bluish discoloration of skin. It will be changing to blackish color then greenish and then will be fading away in 10 -14 days. You need not do anything for the same.
All the best.
