Why My Fever Is Not Going Down For 2 Weeks?

Hi. Well I'm 39yrs old female and I have been running a fever for the last two weeks. I saw a doctor and he told me to take paracetamol and prescribed antibiotics only if the fever didn't break. It's been running between 99.5 to 100 F and the paracetamol hasn't worked so I've started taking the Erythromycin. I'm getting concerned and wondering if it will ever break? I've spent the last 3 days sleeping and resting and now the antibiotics have made me nauseous, as I've finally caved in and taken them. Little distraught too that the doctor didn't even take my temperature? :/ Any advice? I'm debating on going into ER? It started with flu like symptoms fever, chills, aches. The only thing now with the fever is a running nose.

hi,
Fever for over 2 weeks is called FUO (fever of unknown origin) and requires thorough evaluation.
Generally, if one donot respond to conventional antibiotics, it is not wise to keep hitting the bushes without proper diagnosis, so you are rightly worried.
Conditions like tuberculosis, chronic sinusitis, connective tissue disorders are common causes of prolonged fevers. You may require chest and sinus X rays, Ultrasonogram of abdomen and blood cultures for identification of common causes.
It is high time to get yourself evaluated before some complication sets in. Consult your physician and get the relavent investigations done.
All the best.
