Why My Right Index Finger Is Swollen With Pain?

I have been working at my desk and when I picked up some paper I felt some pain and my right hand, the index finger is now swollen, a flat round rash with a normal centre (it looks like a ring) has appeared on my R) palm near my wrist and my R) hand feels like it is burning. I put cold pack on it, but it is not helping me.
