Why My Scan Revealed Nothing And Urinalysis Confirmed Pregnancy?

Hi. I know without a doubt the start of my LMP (42 days ago). I had severe pain, cramping, bloating, discomfort for about 36 hours and contacted my doctor. An ultrasound revealed...nothing. No gestationl sac. My urinalysis confirmed pregnancy. My first hcg test result is only 464, which doc says is about 2-3 weeks pregnant and maybe my dates are off...maybe ovulation is in question, but my LMP and days of TTC are documented - no doubt - because we have been TTC. What should I be concerned about? And prepare myself for?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Serial monitoring of beta hCG is important in your case. Doctors may want to see whether or not the hCG is in a normal range for a specific point in pregnancy, or they may want to look at hCG doubling times in two blood tests over a period of days to get an idea of whether the pregnancy is progressing as it should be.

This can be followed by ultrasound scan at 6 -7 weeks gestation age to know the viability of fetus.
