Why Should Estradiol Be Taken After Menopause?

Im almost 55 years old and my OB/GYN has removed me from birth control and subscribed estradiol. I am pretty much past the menopause phase and rarely have a period (mostly every 4-5 months spot). I am not overweight; however, my blood pressure can at times be high. Is this a medication I should be on? I m don t know that I fully understand why I need to take this.

1) estradiol is not compulsory but it helps to do away with menopausal symptoms to a great extent. Let me know if you need anymore help.
